Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Grabber Catch Latch issues

Does anyone know how to reset a Southco Grabber Catch Latch (the ones that are pressure closed to keep cupboard doors and drawers closed)? If they are not lined up correctly and the catch is "triggered", how do you open it back up??? Have already broken one trying to reset it - could use input from someone who has successfully done this.

I've reset them by using a small screwdriver, either flat head or Phillips, to slip in and pry the catch back out carefully.  However, if they are starting to do this, they will eventually break off after a few times of needing reset.  We've gotten to the point of going ahead and replacing the "action part" of the catch, that with the movable catch.

We are considering the possibility of changing the plastic catches with ones with adjustable roller ball catches.  The screw head at each end of the one piece is adjusted to a tension that keeps the cabinet in place while traveling but doesn't let them pop open too easily.

Thanks!I tried with a screwdriver but must have been too heavy handed. The catch had only triggered once, but it is the second door it has happened on (and it is only on cupboard doors that are quite wide, so alignment can be an issue due to minor movement in the hinge). These other ones you are showing look VERY interesting - what brand / name are they? I would like to look them up, as I can see these long cupboards causing ongoing issues unless you always stop, line up and confirm before "pressing" closed.

Could you get an extra latch assy and mount it to a piece of wood to use for resetting the latch? (I am assuming you mean the latch is in the locked closed position but the door is open, and now you can't close the door).

There are different brands.  I think one can get them at Home Depot or Lowe's.  It may be cheaper to buy them online if one wants to replace a number of catches.  I would suggest making sure that any you buy are made of metal.

Our Mobile Suites has one set on each door of the cabinet for our washer and dryer.  They are there to hold the bi-fold doors open and together when the doors are open.  Our RV was built in 2010 and we've not had an issue with these catches, but they don't get used as much as the plastic ones.

We thought about that but with these types of latches it doesn't work - the area that triggers closed creates an almost impassible block, so getting another latch - even if modified to be slightly smaller - won't work. Good idea though, thanks.

Lynn,

The image I posted was a latch made by Southco.  If you go to the link below, you can see a number of catches.  Southco has one there for $25, but if you look down towards the bottom of that webpage, there are others that are less expensive for more latches.

I can't attest to the quality of the latches, though, as we've not used any of them yet.

Bought a few - they are awesome but have to return them as they are not side mount, and we need them to be. Am going to try out a few push button versions - one rated at 22 lbs of pull force, the other 40lbs.
